Spring 2025 Helene Tuition Grant

In-State GSWP students enrolling in Spring 2025 classes are eligible for UNC Asheville’s Helene Tuition Grant.

The General Assembly has provided $5.5 million to UNC Asheville to support tuition grants to students. Students enrolled at UNC Asheville in the Spring 2025 semester will be eligible for a tuition grant to cover the cost of tuition up to the in-state tuition rate. This program will eliminate or substantially reduce the cost of tuition in the Spring 2025 semester. The amount of funding received by an individual student will vary based on the tuition rate being paid and financial aid already being received.
 
What does this mean for you? 
  • In-state GSWP students will only need to pay the “fees” portion of in-state tuition and fees:   
    • $26.76 for students taking a 5-week / 1 credit hour course 
    • $53.50 for students taking a 10-week / 2 credit hour course

If you are a UNCA full-time faculty/staff member using a tuition waiver, complete the tuition waiver application.

Spring 2025 Distance Learning Costs

In-State Students

  • 5-week classes (1 credit hour): $198.50
  • 10-week classes (2 credit hours): $397.00
  • 15-week classes (3 credit hours): $595.50

Out-of-State Students

  • 5-week classes (1 credit hour): $921.33
  • 10-week classes (2 credit hours): $1,842.66
  • 15-week classes (3 credit hours): $2,763.99

Paying Tuition Online

Once you’re enrolled, you’ll receive a confirmation email with instructions on how to pay your tuition online with a credit card. Please be advised that there is a transaction fee.Pay My Tuition Online

If you cannot pay by credit card, please send a check made out to “The Great Smokies Writing Program” to the GSWP Office:

Withdrawals and Refunds

Please note that refunds will only be given for cancellations received more than two weeks prior to the first class meeting. 

Students who decide to withdraw from a class after it has begun should contact our office immediately by email to ldanzis@unca.edu. Failure to attend class without completing the official withdrawal paperwork before the end of the withdrawal period will result in an F as a final grade.

Parking

We are grateful to our community partners at Grace Episcopal Church and Hanger Hall School for hosting our in-person classes this semester! Parking at both locations is free.
